Colorado Vacation (Part 1)

Last Tuesday we headed out for a drive to Estes Park, Colorado for the Ramthun Family Reunion. We left around noon on Tuesday afternoon and our goal was to get to Sidney, Nebraska for the night. The boys took great naps in the car and for the most part were very good, Landon just wanted to get down and crawl around but that wasn't going to happen until we got to the hotel room! We made a few stops along the way to get some fresh air and for supper but made it to our hotel around 10:00PM Mountain Time.

The boys in their seats ready to start the trip, Nolan is already napping!

Landon is looking at the Nebraska map at a rest stop, he can't believe how boring the drive across Nebraska is going to be!

The Boys in Wyoming! We stopped for a picnic at Curt Gowdy State Park.  I think the boys were so happy to get out of their car seats!

We made it to the cabin at the KOA Campground in Estes Park, Colorado.
We had decided to leave for the reunion a little early, the rest of the Ramthun's would not be coming until Thursday afternoon.  We did lots of sightseeing before everyone joined us.  On Wednesday afternoon after we unloaded the car we headed for Rocky Mountain National Park to go on a trail walk around Lily Lake.

BIG smiles from Landon, I am pretty sure Daddy was making faces at him.

Landon and Nolan at the end of the walk, they completed the Lily Lake Trail!
The next morning we headed out to Coyote Valley Trail, which meant that we had to go all the way up the mountains to get to the other side of Rocky Mountain National Park.  Mommy does not like heights so it was a challenge for her to stay sane in the car at some points.  Landon slept for part of the trip up the mountain.

Mommy pointing out the Mama Moose and Baby Moose to the boys.  There were guides that told us that we had just missed 4 moose when we got around the loop of the trail so we hung out a little while to see if they would come back and they did.

These Moose were not that far away, just on the other side of the creek, which the Mama started coming across at one point.
When the Mama started to come across the creek the guides told us that we needed to get out of there.  So, Mommy started to push her two strollers on a gravel path to get out of there, it wasn't easy.  Adam snapped a few more pictures and then he was out of there as well.  It was plenty close for us!

We had a short picnic to get Landon and Nolan their food at the end of the trail walk and then we headed back up the mountain to get out of the park.  By the time we got back to the cabin it was time for the rest of the Ramthun crew to start showing up.

The rest of the trip will be continued in another post!

  1. Those are some awesome pictures. The one of Landon at the rest stop looked like he had had it. I think you guys did a great job. I don't know how the boys made it through the whole walks on the trails - such hard work.:)
