Mom and Dad took a trip to Chicago for a long weekend away without the kids, July 13th-16th. Mabel and Landon stayed with Grandma and Grandpa Kruse and Nolan stayed with Grandma Marjean. Mom and Dad had a great time and enjoyed touring the city and relaxing and the kids probably had more fun without Mom and Dad!
After a long drive Thursday afternoon Daddy tried a new beer but we were laughing at how little it was with his big hands! Thursday night we stayed out in Schaumburg and planned to go into the city Friday morning for the weekend.
Friday morning we got up and took the train into the city. When we arrive Friday morning we went right to our hotel and were able to check into our room. After the hotel we got back on the train and went to the Chicago Board of Trade. This picture is of Daddy with the statutes outside the Chicago Board of Trade.
Inside the Chicago Board of Trade. Dad had one of his "guys" give us a tour of the floor and we got to see where all the grain markets are traded, very interesting history lesson as well.
After the Board of Trade we had lunch and then headed out to the museum area!
First visit was the Shedd Aquarium! Daddy sitting with a fake turtle to show Mabel!
Mommy got to see her Beluga whales!
Next was the Field Museum! Mommy with Sue - T.Rex!
Daddy off with some more dinosaurs upstairs!
Supper Friday night was our favorite deep dish pizza! Soooo good!
Dessert = donut and ice cream sandwich! Daddy's two favorite things put together!
Saturday morning started out with Daddy going to the top of Willis Tower and standing on a glass floor, Skydeck Chicago. Mommy stayed on the ground just to be safe!

Mommy looking up at the glass overlooks from the ground!
After Skydeck we went on a double decker bus tour of the city. It was very interesting to hear some of the stories and history of the city!
We got off the tour at Navy Pier to walk around for a little bit!

More of the city!
After the Navy Pier we got back on the bus up to Magnificent Mile shopping. First we needed some lunch so we ate at Harry Caray's restaurant at the Water Tower mall.

There was a sports museum at Harry Caray's that we got to tour for free.

Saturday night we had a river boat tour scheduled. We ate supper along the river and then got on our boat to see some of the sites from the boat.
The city was so pretty at night with the lights!
Out on the lake at night with the city behind us!
We watched a great fireworks show from the boat and then headed back for the night!
Sunday morning we slept in and then got up to head home.
One last train ride back out of the city and then home to the kids!
Here are some pictures of the kids that Mommy and Daddy got while they were gone!

Mabel tired shopping with Grandma Sunday afternoon. Mabel ended up getting the flu Sunday afternoon and got sick on the way home from Fort Dodge. Mom and Dad got home as soon as we could when we found out. Poor girl, too much fun over the weekend.
It was a great trip and the kids had a blast with their grandparents!
